Do you want to buy an air compressor but not sure what to look for? There are certain things that you need to closely pay attention to. First and foremost, you need to establish how the air compressor functions.

Why? Because air compressors come in different shapes and sizes. For instance, there are Rotary Screw Compressors, Reciprocating Air Compressors,

Axial Compressors, and Centrifugal Compressors, and so on.

How does the air compressor work?

Almost all air compressors have an electric motor that is attached to a pump. So, the pump forces the air into the tank of the compressor, then the air compressor pumps to the gun that you will use for spraying. Air compressors come with several gauges.

The first gauge, which will normally look smaller, measures the air that is in the tank. The second gauge tells you the amount of pressure you can distribute to a tool, for instance, a spraying gun. You can turn each gauge on and off easily by using a regular.

Not every tool will be suitable for each tank of an air compressor though. That’s why it is essential to always check what the gallons of each tool are, before using it. The gallons of an air compressor range from small 5- and 10-gallon tanks to massive tanks that hold thousands of gallons of air.

What are cubic standard cubic feet per minute? (SCFM)

SCFM is the volume of air that each air compressor can put out at a given period of time, or as it is known, at a pounds per square inch (PSI). While certain spray guns use less SCFM, others require a significant amount of SCFM. A tool that you will be using continuously to spray surfaces will have more PSI and will consume more SCFM from the compressor. When you know how much SCFM you will need, it becomes fairly easy to know which machine to use.

How much does air compressors cost?

Air compressors are available at different prices. A normal air compressor, for instance, can cost about $1800.

You can use air compressors for almost anything. From spray painting for your gates to even garage door remote controls. What’s more, you’ll work with an air compressor without making any noise.

Do all air compressors require maintenance?

Yes! Just like any tool, air compressors need to be maintained from time to time. There are certain parts of the air compressor that don’t need to be maintained but to be changed. And the oil of the air compressor needs to be changed after every 12 months. However, it is highly recommended that after using the air compressor you drain the water out. Leaving the water in the tank for a long time may make your air compressor to be rusty and therefore weak.
