Everybody wants a nice-looking floor, and in today’s market the flooring options are virtually endless. Most homes have a variation of hardwood, tile, laminate, vinyl and carpeted floors. The choices often end up depending on what appearance you’re looking for, and what kind of room you’re hoping to floor.
1. Hardwood Floors
Hardwood floors are very traditional, with 34% of homeowners polled by Houzz reporting that they have or wish to have hardwood flooring in their homes. These floors are often easy to clean and give a polished look that is pleasing to almost any eye. They’re also very good for allergy … sufferers, failing to keep dust mites and mold. A drawback is that buying hardwood floors can be more difficult than buying carpet.
2. Tile Flooring
Like hardwood flooring, a tile floor is traditional and popular, though installing tile flooring can be time … consuming and difficult. Still, its beautiful, personalized look is well worth the effort. Tile floors look particularly pleasing in the kitchen!
3. Laminate Flooring
Laminate floor installation is simpler and cheaper than hardwood floor installation, and gives a similar look. The drawback would be that laminate is often compared to hardwood. However, most people tend to have laminate floors today and it’s cost-effective and neat, presenting a clean appearance in many spaces, especially the kitchen or bathroom.
4. Carpets
Buying carpet is a very popular choice, and as such there are many carpeting types to choose from, whether you want it in your bedroom, like 44% of Americans, or on the stairs. Carpeting is often credited with keeping stains, but the truth is that 99% of carpet stains can be removed within the first few days. Depending on the carpet type, they can last up to 30 years.
5. Vinyl Flooring
A lot of people confuse vinyl for laminate. Some say that vinyl tends to give more of a hardwood look, and its recent incarnations are allegedly easier to install than laminate. Both, however, are budget-friendly options that you can install yourself.
The Choice Is Yours!
The flooring option you choose says a lot about your personality and taste. While some choices like hardwood and tile may present the appearance of a traditionalist, others like carpet allow you the chance to express yourself, choosing different dyes or maybe even patterns if you choose to be really different! Ultimately, whether buying carpet, tile, or hardwood flooring, you have nothing but great options to choose from for every room of the house!
