Sewer repair

Drain cleaning and replacement is never fun but it is something nearly all homeowners have to face at some point. It is recommended that sewer pipes older than 40 years be checked and possibly replaced. Over time, pipes rust, rot, and generally wear down, which with sewer pipes especially can cause damage to your house’s sewer, water, and drainage systems. Maintaining a healthy sewer system is one of the most important things you can do for your home.

Still, when the time comes to replace the sewer pipes, many homeowners are hesitant to do so. It’s not because they don’t want clean pipes. Rather, it is because the method of replacing sewer pipes has traditionally been invasive and also quite destructive. Under the standard method, crews dig large holes in the front or backyard in order to reach the pipes, causing considerable damage to the lawn and any placements above it (such as a patio or garden). The damage resulting from the replacement is so massive that it sometimes requires additional repairs to restore everything back to normal.

There is, however, a less-invasive option that has been in use for the last 10-15 years. Trenchless pipe replacement doesn’t need large holes to reach the pipes. This version of drain repair, rather, pulls new piping through the old one, effectively replacing it without having to tear up the ground. Many a drain cleaning company uses them but, oddly enough, many homeowners never even heard of it. Though sewer repair may not be known for its diversity of services, this new method is increasingly popular with homeowners who do not want to see their lawns spited to save their pipes. Though trenchless piping is on average 30-50% more expensive than the traditional method, the money saved on restorative work may actually bring the total costs down, making the trenchless method the more affordable of the two.
