With the official start of summer literally right around the corner, the National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA) recently announced the dates for National Roofing Week.
Between July 5 and July 11, the NRCA will encourage and promote roofing awareness by urging home owners to be diligent in maintaining the integrity of their roof. In addition, it’s a time to facilitate communication between homeowners and roofing contractors.

As a homeowner, roof maintenance and roofing solutions should always be in the back of your mind. While many people think a home’s foundation is the most important part of a home, a roof is just as important to the overall soundness and strength of a home. In fact, both the basement or foundation and roof of a home share similar functions in that they are designed to protect a home or structure from the element.

However, roof require maintenance. As a homeowner, it’s extremely important to be able to identify potential issues and problems before they become worse — and expensive. By practicing preventative maintenance, homeowners can save both time and money, and may even be able to avoid costly roof replacement. Roof repairs don’t always have to be pricey, and often times those that are can be avoided by identify issues as soon as possible.

As such, commercial and residential roofers encourage property and homeowners to inspect their roofs regularly, especially have severe summer thunderstorms that can cause damage. Worn granulars with curled edges may indicated damage and need for repair. Similarly, hail storms can wreak havoc on your property, especially your roof. Therefore, it’s important to give your roof a once over after a bad hail storm.

Though National Roof Week isn’t until next month, you can start practicing preventative roof maintenance at any time. Working closely with a roofing contractor can help keep your home and roof in tip top shape.

About Me

I've seen a lot of cooking, home improvement and crafting shows and, let me tell you, they make things look way easier than they are. Most people really can’t remodel their own kitchen, paint a wall mural or whip up a gourmet meal in an afternoon. I’m here to share my ideas and guidance about home and family--things I've learned through trial and error. I've already made the mistakes so you don’t have to! Just don’t ask about the kitchen cabinet refinishing project that went awry.
