Proper lighting has been illuminating the darkness and making out lives easier for centuries. Nowadays, industrial and commercial lighting like LED bollard lights and corn cob LED lights, allow us to navigate dark parking lots and factories. One of the major perks of having a strong source of lighting is safety, without a doubt.

It has been this way for years. Without great lighting, we would be bumping into walls, and putting ourselves in danger constantly. Since LED lighting and other light sources play such a significant role in our society, it’s important to understand how this technology has evolved throughout the years.

Continue reading to learn more about how lighting has changed over the course of history, and how significant it is to the industrial industry today.

Candles and oil lamps

Before the introduction of electricity, candles, and oil lamps were the only way we could see once the sun set. Oil lamps were created around 4500 BC, while candles appeared in the year 3000 BC. The last variant of an oil lamp was the kerosene lamp, created in 1853.

However, something much more advanced would shortly approach.

The lightbulb

Long gone were the days of writing in the dark by the candlelight. After the lightbulb was invented in 1880, the technology took off like wildfire. Many accredit Thomas Edison as the inventor of the lightbulb. He was able to create a 16- watt light bulb that could last 1500 hours. Within the next few years, we began to use them in our homes. But the technology continued to adapt and evolve.

The first LED

We were then introduced to LED lighting in 1927. LED lighting is used widely across the globe nowadays. It’s an efficient source of energy, and LED bulbs use a small fraction of power compared to an incandescent bulb. It’s also a much more environmentally friendly source of light that is used in schools, homes, office buildings, and factories.

The halogen light bulb

The halogen light bulb was invented in 1953. Halogen lights are more compact, and easier to dim, making them ideal for homes and restaurants.

Advancements in industrial lighting

Stainless steel LED bollard lighting and industrial lighting

Bollard lighting has been around for ages. But now, stainless steel LED bollard lighting plays a specifically valuable and vital role in society. These lights are tall and usually cylindrical. They are high powered and long lasting. These benefits make them best suited for garages, since certain districts require these areas to be lit 24 hours a day.

Bollard lighting systems are typically installed in parking lots, pathways, tolls, and school campuses. Due to their shape and size, they can also complement the design and layout of the landscape providing both beauty and practicality to the space.

Then and now: How far we’ve come

As you can tell, lighting has and will always be an important invention to society. From the invention of the lightbulb to the industrial lighting systems put in place today, the technology has come a long way. Proper lighting, like stainless steel LED bollard lights and acorn light fixtures, play an important role in keeping industrial workers and the everyday citizen safe from harm.
