It’s almost time for spring cleaning, and while many homeowners are going to be busy purging their property of clutter and unwanted goods, they cannot also forget to clean up outside, either. Here are a few things that need to be done once the winter thaws out properly.
Trim the Shrubbery.
With all the snow and ice gone, you’re more than likely going to notice that there are a ton of dead and damaged branches that need to be pruned back to live stems. Take either a pair of branch trimmers (or a handsaw for any branch that’s over half an inch in diameter) and hack away. You’re going to want to do this before buds begin to swell, but wait to prune spring bloomers until after they flower.
Power Wash House Fences.
House fences are going to look pretty grimy come the springtime, no matter what they’re made out of. Homeowners should rent a power washer and get that gunk right off of their wooden fences, vinyl fences, or metal fences.
Clean Up Around Plants.
Chances are you got as many of the dead leaves in your yard as you possibly could back in the fall, but had a few stragglers. That’s okay, but now is the time to get them, as they could damage plants and house fences. Dead leaves trap moisture, smother plants, and foster disease. They can also cause wood fencing to rot, crack, and split, essentially ruining those house fences. Once there’s no snow covering them up, homeowners should bust out their rakes and wheelbarrows and get those dead leaves picked up on the double.
Spring cleaning is not just a time to clean inside. Homeowners need to get out in their yards, and start giving them the much needed TLC they deserve. Shrubs and bushes need to be trimmed, house fences need to be power washed, and dead leaves need to be picked up.
